Fungus

Embrace all cycles of growth, death, and rebirth without fear, knowing that renewal is always on its way.

The spiritual meaning of mushrooms is multifaceted, representing renewal, growth, and transformation as they emerge from the earth, but also the connection between the earthly and the spiritual realms. They are associated with healing and purification in various traditions, and they also symbolize the interconnectedness of life and the recycling of nutrients.

Although mushrooms are not animals, they share more genes with humans than with plants. In fact, the yeast fungus, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, shares about 25–30% of its genes with humans—and therefore with the animal kingdom.

For this reason, and because the Mayan calendar includes them as potential guides, we have incorporated them into our project.

Some of the teachings they offer us include:

º Renewal and growth:
They emerge from darkness seeking light, symbolizing the overcoming of obstacles and personal growth.

º Regeneration and transformation:
They show us that just as they grow in humid and dark places—much like our difficult moments—it is precisely there that we experience the greatest transformation and change.

º Connection to the unseen:
Like mushrooms and their underground networks, we are connected to invisible energies around us, reminding us that what we cannot see is just as vital as what is in front of us.

The world of fungi, due to their unique growth beneath the earth and in dark places, is mysterious and still largely unknown. In fact, the largest living organism on Earth is a fungus.

The teachings of mushrooms invite us to reflect on our deep connection with nature, our spirituality, and our personal growth, encouraging us to seek greater understanding and harmony with the world around us.
